† indicates please stand as you are able and comfortable.

Dying, Christ destroyed our death.
Rising, Christ restored our life.
Christ will come again in glory.
As in baptism, Owen Willard Hughes put on Christ, so in Christ may Owen Hughes be clothed with glory.
Here and now, dear friends, we are God’s children.
What we shall be has not yet been revealed;
but we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.
Those who have this hope purify themselves as Christ is pure.

The Word of Grace:
Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life; those who believe in me, though they die, yet shall they live, and whosoever lives and believes in me shall never die. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. I died, and behold I am alive for evermore, and I hold the keys of hell and death. Because I live, you shall live also.”

Friends, we have gathered here to praise God and to witness to our faith as we celebrate the life of Owen Willard Hughes. We come together in grief, acknowledging our human loss. May God grant us grace, that in pain we may find comfort, in sorrow hope, in death resurrection.

† Opening Hymn: “Amazing Grace” #378 (vv. 1, 3, 5, 6)

Let us pray together The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

† Closing Hymn: No. 711 (vv. 1, 2, 5, 6)
“For All the Saints, Who from Their Labors Rest”

Following the benediction, you are invited by the family for a time of fellowship in our dining room on the lower level. The combined ashes of Owen and Virginia will dispersed at a later date..

† Benediction and Blessing
Now may the God of peace, who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep,
by the blood of the eternal covenant, equip you with everything good that you may do his will,
working in you that which is pleasing in his sight; through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
