Pastor’ Corner – Season of Epiphany

“Arise, my people! Let your light shine for all the nations to see! For the glory of the Lord is streaming from you. Darkness as black as night shall cover all the peoples of the earth, but the glory of the Lord will shine from you. All nations will come to your light; mighty kings will come to see the glory of the Lord upon you” (Isaiah 60:1-3).

We are entering the Season of Epiphany. The name “Epiphany” means “Manifestation.” The light manifests itself in the darkness, God reveals himself in Jesus, and the glory of God is seen in Jesus. Epiphany is the season of light and light shows and reveals. The light burns so that all might see the truth and the way to God. It is the time for emphasis upon evangelism, the telling of the good news, the spreading of the light of Christ in a dark world. Christ is the light and Christians reflect that light in the world.

The Scripture says, “Arise, shine for your light has come and the glory of the Lord rises upon you.” The light is in God and that light came in Jesus to earth. We Christians are to reflect the light to those around us. Jesus said, “Let your light so shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.”

There is a beautiful story in the ninth chapter of John’s gospel. A blind man had been healed. The Pharisees were trying to get the man to say that Jesus was a sinner and was motivated by evil forces. The man answered, “l do not know whether he is a sinner. One thing I do know that though I was blind, now I see” (vs.25). When one speaks from personal experience, there is no argument left.

Dear friends! Let us share our faith with others. Invite others to the Light of the world, Jesus Christ. We have seen the power of Christ at work in our world. We have felt something. We are different because the Lord is working in our lives. We have something to share. We are to witness for the Light of the world. Witnessing is not an option. There is no way we can escape this responsibility and opportunity.
