Pastor’s Corner – 12/2/2018

“The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him ‘Emmanuel’ which means, ‘God with us’.”  (Matt. 1:23)

What is the joy of Christmas?  Is it in having the family together?  Is it in decorating of the Christmas tree?  Is it in receiving lots of gifts?  Or is it because of a holiday from school or work?

The real joy of Christmas is that God will come in Christ to save us.  In Christ, the true God was truly present and in Christ, the true God was truly human.  No one has ever seen God, but people saw Jesus and thus saw all of God that could be visible in a human form.  In Jesus, God showed his character.  He got up in our faces and hid nothing.

The Scripture says, “…today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord…” (Luke 2:11).

The good news about Jesus is that he comes to all. He comes to anyone with a heart humble enough to accept him.  When Christ was born, God became a man.  He was not part man and part God.  Jesus was completely human and completely divine.  Jesus is the perfect expression of God in human form.  God revealed through his prophets that he would come to us in the person of Emmanuel, so in this way we might know that God is with us.

The Lord promises us that he will be with us to the end of the age.  He said, “…do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

There is a story about a man who heard a noise in the middle of the night.  He went downstairs to investigate and found a burglar emptying the silver chest.  He said to the man, “Stay where you are.  I want to get my wife.  She has been expecting you for twenty years.”

Worry cannot be solved if we insist on borrowing the anticipated problems of tomorrow.  We insist on worrying today about what may happen in the future.   Most of the things we worry about never happen.

Dear friends!

God is with us.  He is in control of everything.  He came to us through Jesus Christ.  He will be with us forever.  Emmanuel!
